Many ice skating opportunities are available at the UIUC Ice Arena. The synchronized skating team at UIUC is nationally ranked. Their performers have competed at national and world levels. Tickets to UIUC’s spring show cost $5 for general seats and $7 for reserved tickets.
University of Illinois Ice Arena
Champaign's University of Illinois Ice Arena is also known by the Big Pond. It is owned by University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. There are many events held at the rink, including ice hockey.
Skating opportunities
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign boasts an ice arena which is free to the public. There are several steps that you can take to host an event at the rink for groups. First, make a reservation. This can be done at the Illini Union RSO Office (Room 284). A list of participants must be provided when you reserve ice. You will also need to arrange for a supervisor at the rink to answer your questions during the rental period.
Center Ice Cafe
The Center Ice Cafe at the University of Illinois Ice Arena is open to the public. The cafe is adjacent to the Customer Service Office. It serves food and beverages. There is also an Ice Arena Pro Shop, which stocks a wide selection of hockey and skating accessories.
Free skate trainers

Gas leak at UI Ice Arena
Following a gas leak at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's ice arena, an Illini-Alert was issued by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The building, which is located at 406 E. Armory Ave. had to be evacuated in precaution after Ameren Illinois crews noticed a gas leak. To stop contamination from spreading further, firefighters closed the sideway to protect the arena. The leak may have come from below the building.
