What is an Aqua-Lung? The Aqua-Lung is an open circuit, self-contained breathing device. Aqua-Lungs was one of the first type of self-contained respiratory apparatus. It quickly gained commercial success and popularity around the world. This equipment is commonly known as a twin hose diving regulator or demand valve. Aqua-lungs were first used by Emile Gagnan and Jacques Cousteau. They quickly became a hit in the diving world.

Jacques Cousteau

Jacques Cousteau, in the 1940s, created the first underwater breathing apparatus that was self-contained and open-circuit. His design was based on a demand valve system that supplied compressed air to divers during their underwater breathing. The Aqua-Lung is the name of the device that opened the sport to everyone who had an interest. The Aqua-Lung was the standard for divers all over the world, thanks to Cousteau.

Emile Gagnan

Emile Ggnanan and Jacques-Yves Cousteau invented the Aqualung in the 1940s. It was inspired from the earlier designs for diving helmets of the 19th century. It allows underwater divers the ability to breathe through a mouthpiece, which releases compressed oxygen activated by diver's breath. Gagnan further refined the regulator valve to allow for automatic air supply to the diver's lips. The amount of breath taken by the diver is then proportional to compressed air. This device revolutionized diving and allowed divers to explore underwater depths for scientific research, military, and recreational purposes.

The first opencircuit demand regulator

Cousteau developed the Aqua-Lung in 1944 and patented it in 1946. The Aqua-Lung was a well-known scuba regulator since then. Gagnan (cousteau's father in law) and Emile Gagnan (a French chemist), were also part of this team. They were all familiar with Cousteau's research, and they decided to work together and create Aqua-Lung regulator.

The BC1

The BC1 Aqua Lung can be used to inflate backs for advanced commercial, military, public safety, and other divers. With its rugged design, it offers superior comfort, fit, and stability. The user manual includes details about the weights that can be inserted into each pouch. There are two weight options for the BC1, one for chest and one to the back.
