You will need to take a scuba dive course if you plan on becoming a cavern divers. This course includes four scuba diver dives. Your instructor will show you how plan your dive, and keep your air and orientation under control. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to dive in caves or other caves with safety rules.
Safety rules
Safety protocols for cave diving follow the Rule of Threes. The Cave Diver should have three sources for light and at minimum two tanks. They should also divide their gas into three separate sections to ensure that they have enough gas to survive the dive. If the dive team has previous experience with cave diving, a more conservative approach to gas management is recommended. In addition to avoiding cave hazards, cave divers should practice safe diving practices.
Equipment
Cave diving requires the use of specific equipment. It is essential to have two types of safety gear. One should be used for guideline running, while the other should keep the line tension high while the diver is in a cave. For cavern diving, each diver must have a safety rod with enough line for the distance to the cave's entrance. Many manufacturers will bundle the spools with guideline at the edge when you purchase a new reel. This makes them more likely to jam. To prevent a jam, trim approximately 10 meters (30 ft.) of line before you use the reel. This will reduce the risk for entanglement.
Maximum penetration
TDI offers a cavern divers course. This course is for scuba divers who desire to dive in areas without direct vertical access. This includes overhangs and cavern diving. Although it is not necessary to take a cavern diving course, this course will give you the skills and knowledge to make the most of this environment. You will learn to navigate the often-hidden spaces safely.
Maximum depth
Cavern diving is subject to certain restrictions. Cavern diving requires that you never dive at night and that you are aware of your limits. Cavern diving is more difficult than other types of diving. You will need to be familiar with cave safety procedures and your limits if you are interested in diving in caverns. Before you dive in caves, you should have experience with it. After that, you are ready to embark on your journey into the cavern diving world!
